GippsTech commits to spending 50% of our profits on projects that support our social mission - to grow startup and tech communities in regional areas, thus creating regional jobs. Projects include the Binary Shift conference which GippsTech has supported with in-kind sponsorship valued at over $40k; sponsoring the setup of another social enterprise, Herd Coworking, Gippsland’s first innovation and collaboration-focused coworking space; and supporting local not-for-profit, Olivia’s Place, with pro bono innovation consulting to help them diversify their revenue streams.
GippsTech has been an active member of Committee for Gippsland for the past three years, and supports Committee for Gippsland in advocating for innovation, digitisation, small business support, education and employment across our region.
CEO Elena Kelareva joined the Committee for Gippsland board in December 2019.

The inaugural Startup Gippsland program, delivered by GippsTech in 2019, was to our knowledge the largest regional startup pre-accelerator ever run in Australia, with 46 businesses participating across 4 councils. Startups completing the program saw great impact on their business and personal growth, from launching new businesses, to signing up partnerships with national distributors, from beginning to export, to scaling up their business by hiring their first staff. The 2019 program was a project of Latrobe City Council, Bass Coast Shire Council, Baw Baw Shire Council and Wellington Shire Council, funded by LaunchVic.The program has now been funded for 2020 through the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science and will be delivered across all 6 LGAs in Gippsland.
Work My Own Way ran from 2019 to 2023, and was part of the Entrepreneurship Facilitator Program, which ran in Gippsland alongside 22 other regions across Australia. The program helped to grow the burgeoning business spirit of the region, supporting locals on their paths to becoming freelancers, small business owners and startup founders.The program was designed to provide flexibility with workshops, meetups and coaching available, at times and in locations that suit the participants. We offered unlimited business coaching sessions for any Gippslander looking to start a business, as well as professional services office hours where you can get half an hour of advice from a lawyer, accountant, or digital marketing expert at no cost to you.Work My Own Way was funded through the Department of Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business’ Entrepreneurship Facilitator Program which concluded in 2023.
Binary Shift was one of Australia’s premier regional conferences on innovation, technology and startups. Sponsored by the Victorian Government as part of the Digital Innovation Festival, Binary Shift was created to connect communities around innovation and technology in regional areas. We aim to showcase regional entrepreneurs and regional business success stories, as well as national and global thought leaders in innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.Running for five years, from 2018 to 2021, the conference brought a stellar cast of speakers to Gippsland, including Dr Michael Hewitt-Neeson from School of Thinking, John Harnett CEO & Founder THRIVE Agrifood, Allison Nikula Founder of CareApp, Mary Aldred, CEO Franchise Council Of Australia and more.
